Bournemouth Sports FC 3 – 1 Gillingham Town

1st Nov – Chapel Gate – 14.00 ko

Bournemouth Sports secured a seventh home win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 result against Gillingham Town from North West Dorset.

The hosts started brightly with Jamie Booth going close before they took the lead in the 11th minute. A long throw from Jake Perch was initially cleared, but eventually ended up back with him and his cross was met by Sports striker Rob Howard who’s goal bound effort was sliced into his own net by a Gills defender whilst attempting to clear it.

The men from Chapel Gate went 2-0 ahead only moments later when Rob Howard converted well from close range following good play between wingers James Bergin and Taylor Webb. At the other end the visitors went close following a good pattern of play which resulted in the striker missing from close range. On another occasion veteran Bournemouth keeper Marc Davies had to be alert to block a shot from close range and at an acute angle.

James Bergin saw his direct free kick rattle off the underside of the bar in the 37th minute with the hosts unable to follow up on the loose ball to extend their lead. HT 2-0

The second half became a somewhat scrappy affair with lots of stops and starts which ultimately affected the hosts more as it disrupted their rhythm and fluency. However they eventually got the third goal in the 70th minute when Captain Taylor Edwards played in a low free kick into the box which was converted by Central Defender Daniel Viner scoring his first goal for the club following his move from Hamworthy United Reserves in the summer.

Gillingham won a penalty in the 80th minute when Jake Perch was judged to have fouled a player inside the box and the resulting spot kick was duly converted. Bournemouth held out firm in the final ten minutes as they were on the backfoot and defended well ensuring an important 3 points and a first win since late September following some tough fixtures in October.
