REPORT | BSLFC RES vs SHANKLIN

Tough battle for Sports facing top of the league. Shanklin crowned champions winning the league last year at Chapel Gate. They rejected the promotion, so we faced up again. This time it was Sports turn to grab a well deserved 3 points!

A sharp start despite the expected heavy tackles. We remained well organised at the back to frustrate Shanklin. 10 mins in and the breakthrough came. Asira was there to tap home after a Taylor free kick on the edge of the box. 5 mins later and we grab a second, Asira through from a measured Gard pass. Bearing down on the keeper she slots home, bottom left. As the rest of first half went on more heavy tackles and fewer chances on goal, settling first half 2-0 to Ressies.

After a great performance in the first half they carried on by keeping the ball well under control with some good link up play and well managed defending. Shanklin pressed and battled to the end. The pressure was rewarded with an 85th min penalty to make it s nervy end, 2:1! The last 5 mins were more of a fight. Sports holding on to seal 3 important point again a team that should be playing higher level.

Coaches comment

A prideful performance by our Reserve realm today, playing with the heart, passion and desire, they have shown character throughout. They knew it would be a rough game and battle more than a match, and our quality was shown right to the end. It has been an incredible afternoon, in charge of the team for the first time and taking all three points against the premier team in the league. Our focus now is on our next fixture in County Cup against US Portsmouth.
