19.08.23. 3pm KO
Bournemouth Sports gained their first point of the season against a well organised and energetic Portland side.
The hosts with the lion’s share of possession in the first half found it difficult to breakdown a stubborn Portland defence and had to wait until the 28th minute for a bit of magic from James Bergin. Winger “Bergs” scored a great left foot free kick from 20 yards out that beat Portland Keeper Sam Moggeridge to put the hosts ahead.Β
Sports went close on several other occasions during the first half whilst the visitors rarely threatened. HT 1-0
It was a certainly a game of two halves as the visitors from Portland grew into the game and equalised on the break on 65 minutes with a good run and solo effort from their player. As the game opened up, Sports began to tire and had to rely on Goalkeeper Marc Davies to pull off a number of fine saves in one on one situations to keep the visitors at bay.Β
Davies unfortunately had to leave the field several minutes from the end due to injuring his foot in another one on one dual which he won, but ended up getting hurt in the process.
The hosts from Chapel Gate, who are in a period of transition this season following some departures of experienced players and the arrival of new younger ones, were pleased to come away with something out of this game.
