11.08.24 – KO 3pm
A hard fought game saw both sides earn a point from this encounter at St Mary’s field. The hosts went close early on when a player saw his long range effort tipped over by Sports debutant goalkeeper Ryan Knibbs.
Indeed it was the hosts who went ahead in the 26th minute when Josh Baker converted from close range inside the box following a good counter attacking move. The visitors from Bournemouth started to find some rhythm when striker Jack Voisey rounded Bridport keeper Archie Kershaw and squared the ball to strike partner Sam Darlow who’s shot inside the box was cleared off the line.
Bournemouth levelled on the stroke of half time when a long throw from Jake Perch was flicked on by Jamie Trimble for Matt Ellis to convert at the far post. HT 1-1
The second half saw Bridport take the lead in the 51st minute when again a low cross into the box was converted by Dan Elliott. Shortly afterwards Sports made 3 substitutions and changed formation and from this point would dominate the game in terms of chances and possession.
Substitute Taylor Webb was played in and out paced the Bridport defence, but was denied by Kershaw. Fellow substitute James Bergin saw his header from a corner go just over. Bergin then delivered a pin point cross and Jack Voisey saw his header well saved by Kershaw.
The visitors from Bournemouth finally equalised in the last minute when another cross from Bergin found Webb who played it back for Jack Voisey to head home from close range.
Sports almost won it late on, but substitute Tom Beckett saw his effort go just wide of the far post. FT 2-2
